Mussel Flex

Mussel Flex was designed to live multiple lives. It’s initial form matches the inner lining of an exhibition space in New York. The malleability of its meshy skin is allows it to be stretched and pulled to create inhabitable spaces. Upon the close of the exhibition, Mussel Flex can be taken down and donated to a mussel farmer (as it is composed entirely out of mussel sock), then stuffed with adolescent mussels and anchored at the bottom of a bay. The project maintains the residual form of the exhibition space and acts as an undersea monument, providing a habitat for marine life, and filtering out industrial pollution and agricultural waste from ocean water.

Mussel Flex was proposed in 2015.
