Concurrent

In mathematics, a set of lines are concurrent if they share a point of intersection. Automobiles traveling on North Palm Ave and Cocoanut Ave in Sarasota currently cross one another at a particular point, but a future round-about will eliminate this intersection and instead vehicles will rotate along a central axis. Concurrent is a sculpture whose form speaks to the present and future conditions of its own specific site, reflecting Sarasota’s architectural legacy (particularly in regards to the quatrefoils of the Venetian style) , while also simultaneously addressing the challenges to come regarding rising sea levels. The size and shape of Concurrent alludes to that of the concrete tetra pods used as breakwaters in an effort to combat coastal erosion. But unlike these solid tetra pods, Concurrent is hollow and consists of identical GFRC panels cast in a high-density foam mould.
